C: No allergies, but I really hate olives.
He didnât respond, of course. I hadnât expected him to.

Zacâs house was big, blue, and beautiful. In fact, it was much bigger and nicer than I would have expected for a college student, but I thought it would be rude to ask how he got it or how he lives in it without a roommate to help cover the bills. It was located on the waterfront of the only lake we had in town, and it was right at the end of a dead-end road, meaning he had all kinds of privacy. Itâd been a longer bike ride than I thought to get out there, and I was finding myself pretty tired by the time I got to the driveway. I may have been tired, but that didnât mean that I couldnât be slightly amazed.
From the outside, I could see that the house had cream-colored shutters on the outsides of the windows, and it had a big, bay window in one of the top bedrooms that had a view of the lake. I found myself unable to catch my breath as I rang the doorbell and waited for Zac to answer.
âHey Chloe,â he said, motioning that it was okay for me to come inside. I again held in my amazement at how beautiful the home was. It featured a picturesque entrance with the tallest ceiling Iâd ever seen and a beautiful, curling staircase up to the second floor. He had a coat rack full of expensive-looking jackets and a bench to sit on to take off your shoes, which I took full advantage of before following him through a well-decorated living room and into a large kitchen with a breakfast bar.
Not only did the house look amazing, and it smelled absolutely incredible. Whatever Zac was cooking, I already knew I was going to like it a lot more than the mac and cheese and protein bars Iâd had that day. He motioned for me to have a seat in one of the stools on the far end of the kitchen island, and I obliged. He had a TV in the corner turned on to the news, though it was at a very low level.
âWould you like anything to drink? I have water, coffee, ginger ale, beer,â he said, pausing after saying beer. âActually, no beer for you. Youâre too young.â
âArenât you, like, 19?â I asked him, which made him laugh for some reason. When he didnât reply, I told him Iâd take a ginger ale, thinking that that might calm my stomach. âWhat are you cooking?â
âWeâre keeping it pretty simple,â he told me. âSteak, chicken, potatoes, broccoli, and then for dessert, weâre having chocolate cheesecake that I did not cook myself.â
âWait, did you say steak and chicken?â I asked incredulously.
âTrust me, you need the protein and iron,â he told me. âProtein deficiency is what causes the fatigue and headaches youâre experiencing, especially the week before the full moon.â
Finally, I was getting some answers, though these were answers to questions I didnât know that I had.
