“Carla. You will sit to my direct left. You know the drill. You pass me the papers as I speak, sliding them over the table to me.”

“On it.”

“Mark. You don’t sit. You stand to my right and behind me. When someone looks at me for longer than two seconds, I want you to make eye contact with them until they look down. Okay?”

“Yes, Ms. Martin.” He uses my last name, just like I told him to.

The last couple days were sweaty couplings and delicious desecrations, but it will not show in the boardroom. I feel no guilt. Mark helped me focus. He helped me realize what I need.

There’s only one tendril of worry—that he won’t obey me. If he does anything to subvert my orders, it brings my perfectly tailored reputation crashing down. Men respect a woman who has a huge alpha eating out of her hand.

They don’t respect a woman who is submissive and meek.

I’m wearing my battle armor. A tailored suit from RD Law’s private man. Carla carries my shield, the briefcase full of notes that I’ve memorized. As she slides the papers over to me, I won’t glance down, and subconsciously they will see my expertise. She’s in a sharp skirt and blouse combo, professional but obviously my subordinate.

Mark’s wearing actual combat clothes. He’s got an armored vest that makes his sweater bulge out even more than his muscle. He’s not made to fit in. He’s made to intimidate, and he’s going to do it. At his waist is that nine-inch hunting knife. It’s obscene, it’s tasteless, but it does the job.

A bullet is a faster end. I want AG Mining’s men to imagine what the knife would do to them.

Mark tried to convince me to wear an armored vest. I refused, and I counted the moments before he accepted my order against his own ideas of what is good for me. A second longer before he acquiesced, and I was going to make him wait on the main ship. Even if I had to use the phrase to make him do it.

Orange

Tiger.

Aviation.

Those three words that would forever make him lose trust in me, the ultimate in treating him as machine, casting away all his humanity to make him obey me.

I hope I never have to use them.

I’m going to open hard against AG Mining Corp. Showing my hand instantly. Telling them what I could have done so they know my second option is much stronger.

If they don’t give up the mines right now, they’re in for a world of hurt.

“Let’s go.” My heels click as Carla and Mark follow me down the hallways of the Hawk 3 to the small transport ship that will take us to AG Mining Corp’s floating mobile headquarters. They set up a station above the mines, all three of which are on a huge barren asteroid that could have been a small planet if it had an atmosphere and life. Instead, it’s nothing but rock and dirt and Orbs too deep for our scanners.
