“I know I’ve smelled this before. I think it’s in my spice cabinet. Is it cinnamon?” she asked.

Mr. Candor shook his head. “OK, class, do you give up?”

Everyone nodded.

“These are…” he paused, “ginger bears!”

“Ginger bears?” Sam asked. “Do they taste like ginger-ale?”

“Or ginger snaps?” asked Danny.

“Well, ginger bears taste a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. Some mommies and daddies in Australia give their children ginger bears when they have an upset tummy, but most grown-ups there like to eat ginger bears after dinner.”

“Wow,” said Maria. “I’ve never heard of spicy candy before.”

“It’s amazing the different flavors we can find all around the world,” Mr. Candor said.
