C H A P T E R 17

Gabriella

He’s astute to reason that I am ready to retreat from us.

I’m not but I allow him to go on thinking it while we have our weird standoff in the long hallway.

“Christ, would you come here to me, woman?” His hand shackles my wrist bringing me a few feet nearer to his domineering height.

Heat licks all over me. “Well? You’ve detained me, now what?”

“Christ. You make me act like an animal who only thinks about fucking when you get lippy.”

I snort. Not altogether unaffected. “Like you need help being an animal. You practically roar every time you open your mouth.”

“Tell me you don’t believe what your eyes are telling me.”

“If I believed you were moving through women like a conveyer belt once I’m out of sight, I wouldn’t be standing here, Dominic.”

He exhales and curses in Italian but he does it with a half grin.

The surprise though? It takes his sexiness and turns it almost boyish. He has vulnerable moments too, I’m seeing.

The air is palpable around us.

We are static, breathing in complete sync. Testing the other. The need from this morning is still there, bouncing between us. Almost as if I can stick out my tongue and taste its tanginess in the air.

Admiring the firmness of his chest outlined by the gray t-shirt molding to his physique. And the hard lines of his abs through the material this close is doing a number on my arousal. Something he soon notices and smirks in return. It takes some of the irritated blaze away from his eyes but replaces it with so much more when he deposits me on the hallway table, putting us at eye level with Dominic’s head dropped a few inches.

His hips split my knees apart for him to fit between.

“Take the shirt off,” I demand. Dom doesn’t falter in my request when he reaches a hand behind his neck and pulls it off in one swoop, dropping it to the floor.

He moves in closer, giving me the vividness of his killer blue eyes.

He should know he’s won.

Up close I appreciate the ink adorning the top half of his body. Admiring how it snakes around his trim waist, almost like it’s alive in his olive skin as he moves and flexes the sinew.

Such a magnificent man and he makes me crazy almost every minute.

It’s a kind of paradise when he pushes his mouth to the side of my neck. I arch to the right and moan, biting down on my lower lip.

Need drapes itself around me, pulling my limbs, crushing my chest. For once, I feel… I just feel. I’m not hollow. I’m not adrift in the nothingness of life.

This man has me tethered to him until it stitches us together like a perfect tapestry.

I’m a smart cookie when it comes to self-preservation. I know any relationship with Dominic would be easy. I wasn’t even out of his sight for an hour and another woman slinked in. There will be other women making their plays for him.
