The Professional Curtain

To the right of the medical curtain, in the lower quadrant of Figure 5, is the professional curtain. Proper professionals draw this curtain hard and fast to separate the certified professionals of health care from the so-called “alternative” practices. It is shown as wavy to indicate that it often proves to be the most arbitrary of all the curtains.

This may be seen as a curtain of inclusion, since it puts non-medical professionals on the same side as medicine. But no less has it been a curtain of exclusion, to keep out practices that narrow-thinking professionals reject even though many people find them effective. Leading the pack in so doing have been the medical bullies—the self-appointed guardians of truth—who lord their science and evidence, however biased, over these practices.
