Gianna looked out the window, her eyes suspiciously roaming the front yard before getting back in the bed. The last week of her life had been one of the hardest she’d ever endured. Not only was her nose broken, but JR had been arrested and charged with domestic violence. She felt bad that he had gotten arrested since his abuse was a reaction from her betrayal with Adriel. Charlene made sure that she pressed charges against him and urged her to confess to the district attorney that Adriel had never hit her.

Gianna didn’t want to confess that she had made up the lie to get Adriel arrested. She couldn’t face anyone looking at her like this conniving bitch that would try to ruin another man’s life. The district attorney had been trying to contact her relentlessly only for Gianna to ignore her. So instead of being a woman and being honest about what she had done, Gianna decided the best choice for her was to avoid the district attorney, that way they would have no choice but to drop the charges on Adriel.

Gianna had bigger fish to fry other than doing what was right to clear Adriel’s name. JR’s family found out about the charges she filed on him and were making death threats to her. It had gotten so bad that she had to go camp out at her mother’s house just to avoid pop-up visits from his people. His two sisters had harassed her so brutally online that she had to delete all her social media accounts. On top of her troubles with JR’s family, Gianna was having some financial issues. She hadn’t been to work in weeks and since she had no vacation or sick time left, she had to file for short-term disability, which only covered sixty percent of her pay. So since she wasn’t receiving any funds at the moment and had to wait for the disability to be approved from her job, she had fallen behind on her bills. Her landlord had been hounding her for rent money and Gianna was terrified that she may lose her apartment soon.

Charlene entered the guest room with some envelopes in her hand. She passed them to Gianna who quickly sifted through them.

“That’s all the mail that you had in your mailbox,” informed Charlene. “I have the coupons since you don’t use them.”

“Was there anybody waiting in like a car or something?”

“No Gianna. I don’t know why you're letting those ghetto banshees scare you. Their brother hit you and broke your nose, so I don’t see why they’re mad at you for that.”

Gianna rolled her eyes. “Do you really think they care about that? Those people are as ratchet as they come, and they won’t stop until they try to kill me. I'm sure JR gave them the okay to do it since he hates me now.”

Charlene gave her a knowing look. “Who cares about JR abusive ass? And do you really believe those death threats?”

“Yes!” Gianna screeched. “I don’t know why you're not taking this seriously.
