Chapter 13
Neo
As I approached the home I hadnât returned to in years, my entire body tensed as my power begged me to let loose. It felt my defensive attitude and tension. It wanted to defend me. If I had been this powerful those many years ago, Colliard wouldnât have had the opportunity to hurt me.
I could have missed the meeting today and joined Gray and Athens at my momâs house. I wasnât positive I could handle my momâs somber looks and Gray discovering the drastic contrast between the two of us though.
The truth was, I was ashamed. I was embarrassed because, many years ago, I hadnât stood up to my father. I had been powerful enough, yet every beating had left me feeling powerless. Every time he hit me, I remembered that if it wasnât for him, I wouldnât have even been alive. He told me it was a parentâs right to treat their kid how they saw fit. Why did he see beating me as a solution? I hadnât been a bad kid. My disappointments ranged from an occasional failed test to not attending a meeting my father wanted me to. Normal kid shit. Apparently not, though.
Touch was hard for me. I understood Grayâs aversion to it. I trusted her and my twin, though. When they touched me, it didnât make me uncomfortable. I hoped that I could help Gray heal enough that she felt similar. Although, despite my heartache and abuse, I knew she had survived worse.
It wasnât that I discounted my pain, but rather, that I knew I could be strong like her. I sighed and approached the massive marble stairs that seemed to mock me. I had a feeling on how my father had grown to have such a luxurious house, but I wasnât going to like it. Fury at the possibility of him committing anything that could hurt Grayâs kingdom, our kingdom, would push me to an edge I wasnât ready to jump off of. I was always there, though. I was always on the edge of jumping.
No servants greeted me at the door. It didnât surprise me in the least that my father wouldnât have prepared for our meeting. I strolled through the ostentatious halls toward his office. I knew security would have warned him of my arrival. I rose a hand to knock on the familiar red oak doors.
âCome in,â A deep voice demanded, making me flinch. I cursed myself internally. I was much larger than my father now. I was also more powerful. This shouldnât be a fucking issue.
âFather,â I kept my face blank as I strolled in and stopped behind the chairs that faced his office. It was a small office and he liked it that way. He thought it made him seem larger. I wasnât sure it was effective.
My father smirked and looked up at me from his paperwork, âAh, I see you actually listened to one of my requests.â
I rose a brow, âYou asked to see me and I had an opening.
