(B) Logic Reasoning (Strengthen) Step 2: Identify the Question Type

The question asks for something that “would provide the most support” for the authors’ analysis, making this a Strengthen question like those found in Logical Reasoning.

Step 3: Research the Relevant Text

The authors’ primary conclusion starts off the third paragraph and is supported by all of the subsequent details.

Step 4: Make a Prediction

The authors are primarily focused on why the migration persisted for so long. Their proposal is that momentum made it easier for people to migrate (lines 23–25). The evidence is that many of the difficulties described in paragraph 3 were addressed by the solutions listed in paragraph 4. To further support the authors’ proposal, the correct answer will merely provide further evidence that migration was made easier and that difficulties were overcome.

Step 5: Evaluate the Answer Choices

(B) supports the authors’ proposal. One of the difficulties migrants faced was having to “adapt to a new culture or language” (lines 39–40). This was addressed in the last line, as early migrants provided a “cultural cushion for later migrants, so that they did not have to struggle as hard.” If these migrants moved into communities with people of common origins, that would certainly help provide a “cultural cushion” to reduce the shock of entering a whole new area.

(A) is a 180. This suggests it took longer to find jobs as time went on, which would make things harder, not easier.

(C) is a 180. Fluctuations would cause uncertainty, which would be harder to deal with than constant prices.

(D) is irrelevant. This puts more pressure on Northern employers, but does nothing to explain why people from the South were more likely to migrate. Even if there were more people recruiting in the South, that doesn’t mean migrating was any easier.

(E) is irrelevant. What happened after the Great Migration does nothing to support why people moved up North in the first place.
