They have taken place so often, these fantasies (of you or of someone else), that I’ve given up trying to contain them. They are a force of nature, like the weather; they just happen; they’re just an instance of me being my incorrigible self. And I can’t stop being me any more than God could stop being God.

Who knows what goes on in God’s mind? Actually, everybody knows. We see before us every day what God allows to happen. And when I say “allows,” I mean “causes.” No distinction can properly be made when talking about God. Does He not number the hairs on our head? Does a sparrow fall without Him knowing? Nothing happens without His blessing.
