Maps

Readily available at the entrances and visitor centers, the free National Park Service (NPS) Big Bend map is adequate for most visitors to the park. You’ll also find summaries and mileage information about popular trails in the Paisano, the free park newspaper. The visitor centers also sell trail guides. Serious backpackers or anyone looking to hike the less-developed trails will want to pick up a topographic map.

Visitor Centers

In addition to the park headquarters and visitor center at Panther Junction (Main Visitor Center; %432-477-1158; www.nps.gov/bibe; h9am-5pm), visitor centers are found in Chisos Basin (%432-477-2264; h8:30am-noon & 1-4pm) and at Persimmon Gap (%432-477-2393; h9:30-11:30am & 12:30-4pm).
