LOKI

“Hello, big brother,” my sister Freya said from her door right before I raised my arm to knock at Derek and Melinda’s. I stepped back so I could get a better look at her and shook my head at the knowing grin she had on her face. “I love it when a plan comes together.”

“You planned this, huh?”

“Sure did.”

“How’s that?”

“Hmmm, let me count the ways. I kept in touch with Derek the entire time he was gone and made sure he knew how much better your life would be with him in it. Then, when he came home to Colorado, I made sure he moved in here. I was aiming to get him into the unit right in front of yours, but it had already been rented by the time he got here. Either way, this has worked out just fine. You’re welcome.”

“I wonder if you’re right in the head sometimes.”

“Honey, you can’t get more right than perfection.”

“What about Melinda?”

“I had a date with her this afternoon, and it went really well.”

“Where did you take her?”

“To my favorite rock. We had a picnic and relaxed while we got to know each other.”

“I do believe that you might be the only brother that doesn’t need my expertise to wow your dates.”

“I think that may have been a compliment.”

“It was. It’s a good thing you don’t require much effort because Thorn and Styx are going to be the death of me.”

“Why are you so focused on our dating life instead of your own?”

“That is a subject better left to my conversations with Val. Have a good time with my future brother-in-law tonight, and don’t fuck anything up.”

“Your pep talks need work, little sister.”

“Reality is often harsh.”

“I love you, little one,” I assured her when I saw the dejected look on her face. “Find a time that’s good, and I’ll take you to my rock for the afternoon, okay?”

Freya gave me a slight smile and then nodded before she stepped back and closed her door. I sighed and made a mental note to have Sin check in on her before I raised my hand again to knock on the door in front of me when it opened suddenly.

“Hey, handsome,” I greeted Derek with a smile. “I thought I was supposed to be here at seven.”

“Shit. I know. I’m sorry I’m not ready yet. Melinda came in and .
