Move away from your dog after your command. He is obliged to follow you!

Learning cues

You have decided on a word or a whistle; now you need to explain the meaning of this cue to your dog.

Put your dog on the lead; a five-metre line is enough to start off with. Take particularly good treats with you and go to an open space without distractions.

Now call your dog by his name and say ‘Here’ or whistle afterwards. Please do it only once! The ‘here’ should be called in the same way that you intend to use later. Otherwise it is difficult for your dog to understand at first that an abrupt ‘here’ means the same thing as ‘heeee-yer’. Choose one variant and stick with it.

Straight after you have given your command, move backwards away from the dog. This will make your dog want to follow you.

Once your dog has caught up with you, affirm his action straight away with a treat.
