Two hours later, Adam was in his new room and sound asleep, hooked up to medical monitors and two IVs. Riyad found it amazing that the underground laboratory—which hadn’t been used in over ten years—would be so well stocked. But since Panur’s interests covered such a plethora of subjects, he had just about everything he needed for any problem he was working on. Even so, he was still missing a few things.

“I must go to M-1, and possibly beyond,” he announced to the small entourage in the main lab chamber. “I don’t have some of the chemicals I need for the cloning solution, as well as a few other items. They were once at M-1, but since that structure suffered the most damage during the Hal’ic attack, I can’t guarantee the items will still be there or usable. There’s a small shuttle in the freighter. I will take that and return as soon as I can.”

“That’s going to delay starting the cloning,” Sherri said in a panic.

“By a day or so. But Lila will be setting up the base station and wiring the chamber for Human cloning. When I return, all I will need to do is prepare the mixture for the bath. After that, the experiment more or less runs on its own. We can’t feed in more energy to speed it up. It will take as long as it takes.”

“Be careful,” Lila advised. “M-1 will have many more Sol-Kor in attendance.”

“I realize that.” Panur smiled. “That’s where my shapeshifting properties will come into play.”

“You can only sustain that for a few minutes,” Lila warned. “After which you will need an influx of energy.”

“That sounds delicious! I’ll take an MK with me and a couple of extra power packs. Who knows when I might want a snack?”
