Chapter 15

Murky black water filled my lungs, and I reached blindly out, screaming, wanting someone, anyone to hold onto. The water washed away the blood from my face and my clothes, but with it came the knowledge that I was being pulled under.

And there was no one to bring me back. And the darkness grabbed me and dragged me further into the depths, drowning me in despair.

I let it take me. After all, what was the point? Plutus was dead. Paul was still being held captive by a madman hellbent on destroying humanity.

And I was useless.

I opened my mouth, bubbles spurting out of it as my lungs emptied their last bit of air, and I welcomed the darkness.

I was going to die. And if what had happened wasn’t a bad dream, then I didn’t want to wake up.
