Chapter 327 – Boss Fight

“Formation Three!” Bargulg snapped. “Caster, Healer, Wolf!”

He and his pets had worked together for a long time, now. They had some basic formations that he had drilled into them, specifically for ambushes or other unexpected fights. Formation Three involved splitting the party into four groups. The roles he called out were a kill order.

He launched himself at the wolf, blade held high, trusting in his pets to act upon their training. His job, as one of the vanguards, would be to hold back the Terrorbeast. The Annointed Chainsword of Kuronoth roared to life in his hands, and left a ragged wound in the wolf’s leg. Not as deep as it might have been, but a wound nonetheless, which was impressive considering the gap between Tiers.

With the Terrorbeast’s attention firmly on him, he strafed to the side, circling the beast, to turn it away from the others. That way, there was less chance of the whole group getting enveloped in the beast’s breath, since he had to assume that it kept the Hellhound’s ability to breathe hellfire. It also meant that it would be harder for the hound to strike them with his claws or snap his teeth at them.

One of those claws slammed down towards him. He brought up the chainsword to block it, bracing the ‘safe’ side of the savage blade with his hand. Even so, he could feel the damage the attack did to him, as the blow drove him to a knee. But a healing spell, followed by a quick spell to bolster his strength, allowed him to shake it off. Lyrei, the second part of the formation, was doing her job and ensuring that everyone stayed in the fight.

The clash of metal upon metal met his ears. That would be third part of the formation, Ratha, crashing down upon the Profane Idolator with her sword and shield, looking to keep the succubus’s attention, and prevent her from healing or otherwise aiding her allies. As a fellow vanguard, this was part of her basic job in the party, especially in fights like this one.

Which left three others, all focused on one target. A blast of… holy hellfire? No, it looked like one of Ena’s Hellfire spells, which he knew well by now, but she must have used her new staff to transmute the spell into one which dealt holy damage. And even a Greater Succubus was weak against holy magic.

He saw the others also moving to focus upon the Dark Weaver. It was a simple plan, as all plans made in the heat of battle are. Draw away the defender and healer, keep them from supporting their allies, and burn down the most dangerous threat of the three. Then focus on the next spot in the kill order, and continue until the final creature falls.

He had no more time to concern himself with the others. The Terrorbeast loomed high over him, and opened his mouth. Bargulg knew what was coming, and launched a spell, [Lightning Javelin] into the roof of the oversized wolf’s mouth.
