Chapter Eleven
I didnât understand why Ava couldnât take the damn hint.
As much as I liked her, I felt like she was doing things on purpose. She was trying to get me to react to her actions, and that alone pissed me the hell off.
I was stressed out, frustrated, and most of all, unsure of what to do about any of this. I felt like if I went back to her, Iâd fall into the same trap that I did before.
Which I did not want to do.
Instead, I tried to work things out with Travis. As much as I disliked it, I had to do something. The two of us tried to make this whole engagement work, at least for my family.
Theyâre the ones who wanted this. I didnât.
It was hell on earth though. For starters, Travis didnât get any more interesting. When she invited him out, she thought theyâd say something cool and innovative, but nope. He was still the same boring guy that she was familiar with.
âBy the way Travis, do you want to go on trips or anything?â she asked.
âWhy?â
âI donât know, I just thought youâd want to go do some sightseeing or something. Since of course, youâre into that kind of thing,â Hannah said.
He pursed his lips, then sighed.
âSure, I guess we can go. Where do you want to go?â he asked.
âHow about hitting up some of the local sights in town, like the pier and the shops there?â Hannah asked.
She thought maybe meeting with him would help to ease intentions. Of course, that was the assumption she made. But she shrugged.
âI guess we can go or something. Iâm not totally sure how this will benefit us,â he said.
âIt could help our relationship. You know, you could do with some support and positivity every now and then. Iâd appreciate that,â she said.
He tensed. He didnât expect Hannah to say that, and she could see the look of surprise on his face.
âSorry. I just didnât know what your problem was. I just thought that you were doing this for your family,â he said.
âIâm going to be honest right now Travis, that is certainly the case. But Iâm not going to sit here and argue with you. Iâm either going to work this out, or we can figure out a way to separate in a peaceful manner,â she said.
âThatâs a good one. Especially since your family is so insistent on us being together. Iâm notâ¦oh itâs nothing,â he said.
She could tell he almost said something which wouldâve changed everything. She wanted to know more, but she wasnât sure how to approach it.
âWhat were you trying to say?â she asked.
âNothing. Donât worry about it. By the way, how are your studies going? Still planning to graduate once this is over?â he said.
She only had a couple more weeks until finals, and sheâd finally be free. That of course would give her plenty of time to figure out her next step. She nodded though. It was the truth.
âYeah. Iâm doing way better.
