Chapter Eleven

I didn’t understand why Ava couldn’t take the damn hint.

As much as I liked her, I felt like she was doing things on purpose. She was trying to get me to react to her actions, and that alone pissed me the hell off.

I was stressed out, frustrated, and most of all, unsure of what to do about any of this. I felt like if I went back to her, I’d fall into the same trap that I did before.

Which I did not want to do.

Instead, I tried to work things out with Travis. As much as I disliked it, I had to do something. The two of us tried to make this whole engagement work, at least for my family.

They’re the ones who wanted this. I didn’t.

It was hell on earth though. For starters, Travis didn’t get any more interesting. When she invited him out, she thought they’d say something cool and innovative, but nope. He was still the same boring guy that she was familiar with.

“By the way Travis, do you want to go on trips or anything?” she asked.

“Why?”

“I don’t know, I just thought you’d want to go do some sightseeing or something. Since of course, you’re into that kind of thing,” Hannah said.

He pursed his lips, then sighed.

“Sure, I guess we can go. Where do you want to go?” he asked.

“How about hitting up some of the local sights in town, like the pier and the shops there?” Hannah asked.

She thought maybe meeting with him would help to ease intentions. Of course, that was the assumption she made. But she shrugged.

“I guess we can go or something. I’m not totally sure how this will benefit us,” he said.

“It could help our relationship. You know, you could do with some support and positivity every now and then. I’d appreciate that,” she said.

He tensed. He didn’t expect Hannah to say that, and she could see the look of surprise on his face.

“Sorry. I just didn’t know what your problem was. I just thought that you were doing this for your family,” he said.

“I’m going to be honest right now Travis, that is certainly the case. But I’m not going to sit here and argue with you. I’m either going to work this out, or we can figure out a way to separate in a peaceful manner,” she said.

“That’s a good one. Especially since your family is so insistent on us being together. I’m not…oh it’s nothing,” he said.

She could tell he almost said something which would’ve changed everything. She wanted to know more, but she wasn’t sure how to approach it.

“What were you trying to say?” she asked.

“Nothing. Don’t worry about it. By the way, how are your studies going? Still planning to graduate once this is over?” he said.

She only had a couple more weeks until finals, and she’d finally be free. That of course would give her plenty of time to figure out her next step. She nodded though. It was the truth.

“Yeah. I’m doing way better.
