What’s your rebid?

Hand 1: 2 hearts. You shouldn’t bid 2 no trump because you don’t have diamonds stopped. This hand is as weak as it can be and still have enough points to open.

Hand 2: 3 clubs. This hand is very weak. You can’t bid 2 spades (your other four-card suit) because that would be a reverse, and you are far too weak to make a reverse. Your action in supporting partner’s suit here shows a minimum hand and invites a pass.

Hand 3: 2 hearts. You have six hearts and nothing else to bid. Again, this describes a minimum hand.

Hand 4: 2 diamonds. Your hearts are terrible, even though you have six of them. You are just asking your partner to take a preference. You’re going to pass whatever she does unless she makes a forcing bid.

If you have a minimum hand with a higher-ranking four-card suit over your opening five-card suit, you have four choices when your partner responds by bidding a new suit, and you can’t reverse because your hand isn’t strong enough:

✛ Bid a new suit at the 1 level.

✛ Raise your partner’s suit at the lowest level.

✛ Rebid your own suit at the lowest level.

✛ Rebid no trump at the lowest level, but you must have no trump distribution. You shouldn’t rebid no trump if you have a void or singleton.
