The Shinkansen Effect on Team Leadership and Teamwork

Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success. (Henry Ford).

Using the Shinkansen metaphor and applications (Low 2011), the author is putting up the case of the effects and benefits of effective team leadership cum teamwork. Accordingly, the future is team leadership cum smart teamwork. The world is becoming increasingly diversified, and smart teamwork, despite their individual differences, capitalise on their common goal and common ground that supply the thread that defines and enables them to work as a team, and at that, even more so successfully.

To demonstrate the fundamentals of teamwork, this author would like to indicate what Low (2003, p. 1) has highlighted; he uses an analogy on organisational structures when there is essentially little or no collaboration and teamwork. Such organisational structure precisely happen when there is wedge between an organization’s lead and the led and when little or no team spirit. To quote:An organisation is like a tree full of monkeys – all on different levels, some climbing up. The monkeys at the top look down and see a tree full of smiling faces.
