“Don’t stop, Liz,” Brent moaned as her fingers teased him. If he was a believer of magic, he’d swear she possessed a magical touch. Each time her hand caressed him, it was a matter of minutes before he’d find himself burrowed on the bed in pure bliss.

“You like that, huh?” she giggled, her hair tickling his naked skin.

“Yes. Now shut up and finish me off. I’m starving.”

“Rude much?” she asked, digging her fingernails into his flesh.

“I’m sorry. You give the best massages, and I’d like nothing more than to lie here all night and let you work your magic.”

“Sorry, buddy. I love you, but I will not spend my entire evening rubbing your back. I have a bowl of popcorn at my place with my name written all over it. Besides, I have a showing in the morning at nine.” She laughed and patted his skin. “All done.”

“Why are you showing a house on a Sunday?” he asked, sitting up and grabbing his T-shirt from the arm of the purple leather sofa. He slipped the soft fabric over his head, adjusted it, and waited for Elizabeth to answer.

“The client’s flying in tonight. The house came on the market around noon today. He’s moving his company to Paris, and he called me last week about the available real estate here. When this house came up, I realized it’d be a perfect fit. So, I e-mailed the photos to him, and he called within minutes. He said he’d be in late tonight and would fly out at noon tomorrow.”

“Where’s the house?”

“It’s on the coast a few miles south of where you were today.”

“Those homes start at seven figures. Holy shit! Hopefully he’ll buy it. That would be a nice paycheck for you.”

She nodded. “My fingers are crossed.”

“Maybe he’s single.” He winked at her.

“He’s married and is bringing his wife with him.”

“I tried, but seriously, I need to introduce you to the new guy who started working for me a few months ago. He’s our age, and he’s single.”

“No, thanks. I’m okay being single. Since Xander’s death, I’ve had no desire to date anyone. He was the love of my life, Brent, and I can’t see anyone ever comparing to him. Besides, like I told you earlier, I’m okay with going out with you. I like the friendship we share. You’ve helped me through so much, and I can never repay you.”

“You know I’ll never stop trying to set you up with someone, but in the meantime, I’ll back off a little.”

“Thank you. I should get going. I have a few things to prepare for tomorrow morning.”

He stood and walked his friend to the door. “Thank you for coming over tonight. I appreciate it. After the way I fucked things up, I needed someone to talk to.”

After she opened the door, she turned and caressed her fingers along his jaw. “I’m glad you screwed things up. It made you look beyond the sex thing and it brought out something I haven’t seen from you in a while—emotional intelligence.
