âDonât stop, Liz,â Brent moaned as her fingers teased him. If he was a believer of magic, heâd swear she possessed a magical touch. Each time her hand caressed him, it was a matter of minutes before heâd find himself burrowed on the bed in pure bliss.
âYou like that, huh?â she giggled, her hair tickling his naked skin.
âYes. Now shut up and finish me off. Iâm starving.â
âRude much?â she asked, digging her fingernails into his flesh.
âIâm sorry. You give the best massages, and Iâd like nothing more than to lie here all night and let you work your magic.â
âSorry, buddy. I love you, but I will not spend my entire evening rubbing your back. I have a bowl of popcorn at my place with my name written all over it. Besides, I have a showing in the morning at nine.â She laughed and patted his skin. âAll done.â
âWhy are you showing a house on a Sunday?â he asked, sitting up and grabbing his T-shirt from the arm of the purple leather sofa. He slipped the soft fabric over his head, adjusted it, and waited for Elizabeth to answer.
âThe clientâs flying in tonight. The house came on the market around noon today. Heâs moving his company to Paris, and he called me last week about the available real estate here. When this house came up, I realized itâd be a perfect fit. So, I e-mailed the photos to him, and he called within minutes. He said heâd be in late tonight and would fly out at noon tomorrow.â
âWhereâs the house?â
âItâs on the coast a few miles south of where you were today.â
âThose homes start at seven figures. Holy shit! Hopefully heâll buy it. That would be a nice paycheck for you.â
She nodded. âMy fingers are crossed.â
âMaybe heâs single.â He winked at her.
âHeâs married and is bringing his wife with him.â
âI tried, but seriously, I need to introduce you to the new guy who started working for me a few months ago. Heâs our age, and heâs single.â
âNo, thanks. Iâm okay being single. Since Xanderâs death, Iâve had no desire to date anyone. He was the love of my life, Brent, and I canât see anyone ever comparing to him. Besides, like I told you earlier, Iâm okay with going out with you. I like the friendship we share. Youâve helped me through so much, and I can never repay you.â
âYou know Iâll never stop trying to set you up with someone, but in the meantime, Iâll back off a little.â
âThank you. I should get going. I have a few things to prepare for tomorrow morning.â
He stood and walked his friend to the door. âThank you for coming over tonight. I appreciate it. After the way I fucked things up, I needed someone to talk to.â
After she opened the door, she turned and caressed her fingers along his jaw. âIâm glad you screwed things up. It made you look beyond the sex thing and it brought out something I havenât seen from you in a whileâemotional intelligence.
