Under the cover of the night, the small town’s usual energy had given way to an eerie silence as Dorothy, Zoe, and Frank approached the building that housed Sullivan Construction. Shadows danced on the walls as they moved stealthily, their steps muffled by the darkness.

Frank, stationed at a discreet distance, kept watch, his eyes darting between the building and his companions.

"Be careful in there," he whispered to Dorothy and Zoe. "If anything seems off, get out immediately."

Dorothy nodded, her resolve steely. With practiced precision, she pulled out a set of lock picks, her fingers moving deftly over the lock.

"Gran! Where did you get those?" Zoe's voice hissed a surprised whisper in the darkness.

"Hush. You never know when you'll need to gain access to something.” Her fingers worked deftly with the mechanism, and the door yielded with a soft click. Dorothy pushed against the door, but it seemed to be obstructed from the inside.

"Shoot. Zoe, come here." Dorothy pointed to a partially open window that was in the wall next to the door. "You think you can squeeze inside?"

Zoe nodded, silently grabbing the window ledge and effortlessly hoisting her slender body up and through the small opening. A few seconds later, Dorothy heard a soft sliding sound, then the door opened from the inside.

Cautiously, the two peered around, their eyes adjusting to the darkness of the hallway. The air inside was stale, tinged with the scent of oil and construction dust. Dorothy and Zoe moved cautiously, their footsteps echoing in the empty corridors. Every creak of the floorboards beneath their weight seemed magnified in the silence. They reached Richard Sullivan's office, the nerve center of his business empire. Surprisingly, the door to the office was not locked. Dorothy gripped the handle silently, pushing the door open slowly to avoid any unnecessary movement or noise.

"We need to be quick and quiet," Dorothy urged, taking her phone out of her pocket. She began taking pictures of anything and everything that seemed significant, her senses heightened with anticipation and fear that they might be discovered. "We're looking for anything unusual, something that doesn't belong here."

"We got this," Zoe whispered resolutely as she began her own search in the opposite corner of the enormous room. She rifled through drawers, scanned files, and inspected the framed photographs adorning the walls.

Dorothy nodded, her eyes continuing to scan the room. Her hands trembled slightly, a combination of fear and adrenaline. "Keep an eye out for ledgers, photos or documents, something that might indicate the people he was blackmailing."

The search continued, each moment stretching into an eternity as they combed through the office. The only thing keeping Dorothy sane was the knowledge that Frank was outside, watching.

"Do we dare go through the file cabinets?" Zoe asked, creeping behind the desk to see what she could find within the wall of cabinets in the back of the room.

Dorothy nodded, her gaze fixed on the file cabinets. She knew that if they were lucky, there could be years of construction files
