"Are you going to be able to get your money's worth here?" Matt asked her.

"Oh, I'll go sit down in the con suite. You two go ahead. Explore the next dimension. Maybe we'll cross paths again."

Matt felt torn. Sheila had obviously enjoyed crossing paths so far, and he'd appreciated her presence since he felt so awkward with Mariah. On the other hand, she had been relishing her role as part of a family triad enough to make him a bit nervous.

"We'll check the con suite after the ride," he suggested. "Where is it anyway?"

Brightening, she told him.

Mariah, meanwhile, was jumping from foot to foot in impatience.

Matt was devoutly glad that he had been able to be a "father" for so long without any real fatherly duties or conflicts.

"We'll see you later," he told Sheila, realizing that Mariah had been very patient with the banal adult conversation going on over her head while tantalizing goodies like more solar system ear-dangles and Wormhole rides awaited.

She knew right where to find the ride entry and led the way on prancing feet.

There was a long line, of course, in which she jiggled, burning energy as if it were a renewable resource.
