Take on Me
Kick
My mystery man visited me in my sleep again. Covered in a sunlit haze, I recognized him by the way he made my heart flutter. I reached for him, but my hand filled with light.
âWhereâve you been?â
âWaiting for you,â he answered.
Longish tresses floated through my fingers, though I couldnât see them. He turned his cheek into my hand, and the familiar gray strands at his temples caught the light. I closed my eyes, allowing the warmth and brightness to fill me. I inhaled the stillness he offered and exhaled my melancholy.
We floated down winding stairs to a secret sanctuary and walked a gardenia-filled path. When light beams occasionally broke around us, I saw his boots, pants, and a coat from a different time, but I couldnât identify when. My lack of interest in any history class not involving artwork, biting me in the ass, even in my dreams.
My dream lover touched my stomach where it still ached. The pain dissipated in an instant. He touched my jaw, and the rash there vanished too, leaving porcelain skin.
I placed my hand over his heart, sensing its slow beat beneath my palm. He sighed at the sensation. Iâd never considered I could fill a need in this mystery man from out of time. But he craved my touch as much as I did his. As fast as he appeared, I knew he was leaving again.
âPlease stay,â I begged. âIâm better when youâre around.â
A rugged hand moved around the space, directing my attention to the porch we now stood on. The same gardenia bushes defined the outside edge, a gentle breeze making their fragrance surround us.
âThis is all you, lady. I walked with you down here, but this place and everything in it is your doing.â
I thought he was referring to meditation, and I remembered recent attempts and the subsequent glow they caused. My hands tucked against my chest for fear of discovery. âIâm not so sure.â
My body lightened, and my feet felt like they could break free of gravity. But my dream man worked my hands apart, lacing our fingers. âDonât fear the light. Itâs you too.â Then my body felt the welcomed pressure and presence of a hug without the sensation on my skin.
He added, âCome back here anytime you need to.â Next came the sensation of lips gently pressed to mine. âThank you for showing me around. If you donât mind, Iâd like to stay awhile.â
âBut I want to stay too.â
âNo, angel. See whoâs at your door. Hurry.â
