Baba Nobuharu, who captured Katsurayama after a fierce winter siege, appears at top right in this scroll of the Takeda Twenty-Four Generals. He is shown with Naito Masatoyo (lower right).

This vivid legend cannot however be linked unequivocally to Katsurayama. There are similar stories told about other sieges, one of which, concerning the siege of Toksan in Korea in 1593 has the defending general washing his horse with white rice. As for finding baked rice on the Katsurayama site, this would be by no means an unusual discovery where a yamashiro had been burned to ashes and taken its rice store with it. Nevertheless, it is clear that Katsurayama fell only after a long and desperate struggle.
