Kasdeya
âAre you sure?â Kasdeyaâs hand paused in lifting her coffee mug to her lips. âIâve seen the things that place does firsthand.â
âI am sure. We will not leave without Abaddon in chains.â She turned to Agatha. âYou have the chain in your bag?â
âI do. Itâs heavy.â Agatha hefted the bag. âIt will have to be a small group, Shayna. Weâll never get close enough if we bring everyone.â
âItâs you, me, and Kasdeya.â
âWhat?â Kasdeyaâs hand shook hard enough to spill coffee down her black shirt. âWhy me? Iâm the weakest one here.â
âBecause you know him the best. Once we get there, youâll be the best judge of where he might be. The place is large.â
No, no, no. She couldnât face him again. Not without a large group of warriors between them. âI canât.â
Shayna narrowed her eyes. âYou can, and you will.â With that, she marched from the kitchen.
âSheâs already had this argument with Pierce who didnât want to stay behind,â Agatha said. âThe three of us can handle Abaddon. He cannot escape these chains once bound. Stay with us, and youâll be fine.â
Kasdeya felt again as if she had to remain at Shaynaâs side in order to be watched. What possible use could she be to the other two? She checked her pockets for her inhaler, stalling before she joined the others outside.
Marshal put his hands on her shoulders from behind. âPromise youâll return to me.â
âI canât make that easily with only the three of us going.â She turned and wrapped him in a hug. âI donât want to go, Luke.â
âYouâre going with two of the best.â He rested his chin on the top of her head. âIâll see you later.â He tilted her face to his. âShayna wouldnât be taking you if she didnât need to.â
She hoped he was right. On her tiptoes, she placed a kiss at the corner of his lips. âIâll give you a real kiss when I return.â
His lips curled into a smile. âIâll be looking forward to it.â Taking her by the hand, he led her to the back porch where the others waited.
Shayna glanced up from her goodbyes with Pierce, then cupped her manâs face. âIâll see you later.â
He nodded, swallowing hard. âUntil later. I love you, my faerie queen.â
After kissing him, she turned a grave look on Kasdeya. âWeâll be teleporting. I trust youâre wearing your chain mail?â
âI am.â She squeezed Lukeâs hand.
âWear this. Never take it off.â She handed Kasdeya a silver cross necklace. âIt will help.â Shayna held out her hands to Kasdeya and Agatha. The moment they touched, she teleported them outside a massive brick building. Four stories high and spreading across a lawn filled with weeds, the sight struck fear in her heart.
Kasdeya slipped the necklace over her head and tucked it inside her shirt.
âStay close and stay low.â Shayna led them to a side door, then stepped aside for Agatha.
The witch spread some type of greasy substance on the hinges and the door swung open without a sound.
