Something had shifted. I didn’t have any choice but to accept it and respond accordingly.

After the day in Plumas and brunch the next day, it was clear that new rules needed to be added. Eli kept proving itself, and I had to step up. There was no other way around it. Eli was fulfilling everything on its end, and I was the one lagging behind.

It would not do.

Talking with León more the other night helped—after Mónica and Kara had called it a night, and Danny and Eli had both exhausted themselves. Carlos had been cradling Danny in his arms, and Eli had been with them, listening to whatever words Danny was managing to slur together.

León and Danny didn’t have a M/s dynamic per se, but Danny ended up behaving like a service sub more often than not, and they played with the roles often enough to make it count.

Or maybe I’d just needed that bout of energy that came from a scene with other Domms, or from spending time at the club without the weight of overseeing a workshop or wearing an arm band that identified me as a DM for the evening.

Whatever it was, it had solidified that it was about time to start pulling my own weight in a dynamic that was all about me wanting to have that weight and that level of control.

“Eli?”

It took less than two seconds for Eli to come running downstairs.

The one aspect of my life where I didn’t follow high protocol were clothes. I’d fantasized about it once when I’d first started reading on kink history and learned about the kind of power imbalance I’d crave. Ultimately, though, because of the gym, I wore sportswear ninety-nine percent of the time I spent outside of the club. I loved the power that came from donning the shiny latex, but realistically speaking, I had no interest in changing clothes the second I walked through the doors of my house just to recreate an aesthetic. It made no sense to make Eli wear any particular set of clothes when I wasn’t going to do the same, which was why my slave wasn’t breaking protocol when it showed up wearing an oversized hoodie and boxers.

I still had to get it more clothes, but for now Eli seemed more than comfortable with the underwear I had express delivered and borrowing old clothes of mine. I couldn’t say I hated the look, either.

“Yes, Mistress?”

“Kneel,” I commanded after standing up from the couch. “Hands behind your back.”

Eli didn’t hesitate to go down, its knees thudding against the wooden floor. There was no sign of pain or discomfort at the impact. If anything, the few wrinkles across its forehead faded away. Its eyelids hooded in pleasure at the simple command.

I circled the spot where it kneeled, assessing Eli’s—perfect—posture before I spoke. I didn’t need to wear any gear or be in any particular location to slip into my own headspace, the one that added a more authoritarian tone to my voice and had me standing taller without any conscious effort on my part.
