The next find was of a crude carved face with deep set eyes. The

18 inch by 24 inch form was contained within an oval carved outer line. Lichen growing over and into the carving may give an indication of the age.

The highlight of the past month for Raywyn and myself was another visit to Abel Tasman National Park. We went in response to news that a cave containing carved stone images had been seen on the foreshore of Tonga Bay. Again, we were to experience beautiful calm weather for our half-hour boat trip to the site. We passed by Separation Point, the place of our earlier visit and moved along the rocky coast past the seal colonies, marvelling at the incredible ability of these sleek bodies as they swam effortlessly through the deep blue waters.
