This position is an amendment by J.B. of a problem by Walter Grimshaw (1832-1890) of Whitby. In 1854 Grimshaw won the first ever chess problem solving competition held by Staunton’s The Chess Player’s Chronicle. He is perhaps best known for giving his name to a popular interference theme. (see Ch. III). He was also a strong chess player having once beaten the mighty Steinitz.
