Chapter 5: Jesus The Magician

We often ascribe the works of Jesus to miracles. What are miracles if not acts of Magick? Let us look in the dictionary and see what the definition of miracles is

NOUN

“An effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.”

Isn’t that what we do every day as magicians?

The Jews and some pagans of his day accused Jesus of being a magician. Early Christians were also routinely accused of performing witchcraft and sorcery. It was so prevalent that even Christians would accuse one another of practicing Magick. Back in those days we didn’t have hospitals and mental health institutions, there was no such thing as germ theory or the concept of mental aberrations due to neurotransmitter misfiring. All things were looked upon as being spiritual in nature and that any problem you had was most likely due to demons or spiritual entities possessing you as well as other sicknesses of the soul. People would seek the help of healers and exorcists to remedy their ills. Jesus happened to be really good at this.

Aside from the Magick he performed in the New Testament which we will discuss in a moment, there are also several examples of his abilities within the New Testament Apocrypha. He clearly performed both white and black Magick.

Here are a few examples: In the Infancy Gospel of Thomas (Not to be confused with the Gospel of Thomas) depicts Jesus as a child performing several acts of Magick; he models sparrows out of clay and they fly away 2:2, 4. He kills his fellow children 3:3; 4:1. He bound whomever opposed him 5:1. Jesus was so feared for his black Magick that ‘no one dared to anger him, lest he curse him, and he should be crippled’ 8:2. Even his own father Joseph begged Mary ‘do not let him go outside the door, because anyone who angers him dies’14:3. He wasn’t all bad of course Jesus healed a young man and a teacher 10:2; 15:4, the raising of the dead 9:3; 17:1; 18:1, the healing of his brother James from a snakebite 16:1, the replenishment of a broken jug with water for his mother 11:2 and of course, the miraculous extending of a piece of wood in order to help his father make a bed 13:2. These are of course not all the occurrences but it gives you an idea that he was known to be a magician across many traditions, not just the New Testament.

Here are several instances in which Jesus performed Magick In the New testament.
