Chapter 5

Jade watched Jenson as he struggled with waking up. She’d been giving him pain medication by way of an IV she’d put in for the last two days. He’d been in pain, anyone could see that, but once she was able to examine the wound on his leg, she made sure that he was in a deeper sleep so that she could put not only most of the stitches back in his leg but to carefully monitor the bruising that was covering nearly all of his thigh, front to back.

“Jade?” She told him that he was going to be all right. “I don’t know what happened after we left the dinner. I’m assuming that I passed out.”

“I helped with that. Not that I didn’t want to hit you, but I shot you up with Morphine so that you’d not hurt anymore. Why didn’t you say something about how much pain you were really in.” He said that it had been painful, but he’d been having a good time too. “The next time we go out, I might not help you along with meds to keep you upright.”

“Will there be a next time we go out?” She nodded, not sure what to say to him about dating right now. “What happened? I mean, I’m druggy, feeling like I was before I left the hospital. I’m assuming you had to put in a few more stitches.”

“Nearly all of them. Also, the bruising around the wound it a lot bigger than I was comfortable with, and I had you x-rayed as well as make sure that there was no infection in your body. Turns out you’re just stubborn. I don’t like you feeling bad, Jenson. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t do this again. Piss me off so that I have to knock you around a bit.” Jade couldn’t help it. She’d been fighting tears for hours. But when he spoke to her, looking better than he had, she didn’t hold back anymore but cried. “You can’t be hurt again, Jenson. I love you, and seeing you in that much pain hurt me to my core. I’m so sorry that I hurt you.”

“Come here, love.” She didn’t hesitate but got onto the bed with him. Making sure that she didn’t bump his wound, she wrapped her arm over his chest and cried more. “I’m so sorry that I pissed you off enough that you had to hit me to get my attention. But I’m so happy to know that you love me too. I think I’ve loved you since the moment you stood up to me bullying you. You’re my heart.”

“Don’t say things that your ass can’t cover, Jenson. I’ve had a hard few days keeping you still, and I won’t enjoy hearing you take it all back.” He kissed her on the forehead. “That’s nice. Thank you.”

When she yawned twice, he simply held her. As her body began to relax in degrees, he held her to him. Jenson couldn’t believe his luck in finding this woman just when he needed her the most.
