The Main Hall of Horyu-ji is the graceful Kondo, which houses a Shaka triad as the temple’s principal object of worship. The railings that skirt the upper level are decorated with Buddhist swastika patterns, typical of the Asuka style, as are the inverted V-shaped support posts.

Inside the walled perimeter of the Western Compound are two striking buildings, a five-storey pagoda and the Kondo, or Main Hall.

The Chumon or Central Gate formed the entrance to the Sai-in (Western Precinct). It is different in style from later gates, with four bays and an upper storey notably smaller in length than the lower.
