Chapter 7: Sermon Seven
Kingdom Purpose
(First Preached - True Foundation Transformation Church – 5/4/08)
Jeremiah 1:1-5
(KJV)
“The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: (2) To whom the Word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. (3) It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. (4) Then the Word of the LORD came unto me, saying, (5) before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
I think we all would agree that, many people, if not most people, go through life without any real sense of purpose, or without any real sense of knowing the rationale of their existence, or without coming into contact with some meaningful reason of their birth, or with some meaningful reason of their creative uniqueness, or with some meaningful reason why we dwell in the space and place of time between our birth and our death. Some people go their entire lives searching and experimenting, and dibbling and dabbling in all sorts of things and areas within life in an attempt to find their niche, or to find their place, or to discover their purpose in this universe.
We all know people, some that we work with, and some that we are friends with, and some, who are members of our families, who live life aimlessly, without any concrete goals, stated life agenda, positive ambitions, affirmative objectives, certain or definitive plans, or eschatological perspective. And don’t get nervous, I’ll define “eschatological.”
“Eschatology” is a theological term which presents discourse or conversation about the last things. It is a study of the end of times, which deals with life after death issues and the end of the world. Within Christianity it covers such subjects as: the return of Christ, the gathering of the saints, the destruction of this world, the Day of Judgment, Eternal life or eternal damnation, and the final destination of Heaven or Hell. It is a school of thought, which teaches that all life and things move toward an end, and that there is something more to now, and that beyond now is a hereafter, which is based upon our existence in the now. Eschatology builds on the premise that life has purpose and responsibility, and with responsibility that, such life has accountability − and in Christianity, that all life must one day answer to God.
Into this, let me interject that, I believe, as it pertains to each of us that, it’s no accident that we’re here. I believe that no life has origin without God, regardless of how the life is orchestrated or no matter the method or intent of conception.
