Chapter 18
On getting her orders from John, E’steem nods her head and hands me my iPhone. “Okay, I’ll head over there right now.”
“Before you go, give Isis your Bluetooth earpiece so I can stay in touch with her.” John tells her.
“I’ll do that.” E’steem says. “Call her back in about five minutes. Isis needs to freshen up.”
E’steem hits end, brushes back her silken black hair and eases her Bluetooth earpiece out of her ear. I grimace as she drops it in the palm of my hand. “Ewww.”
“Hey, I keep my toys clean.” E’steem retorts.
“I’m still gonna rub some alcohol on it before I play with it.”
E’steem flashes a smile at me, playfully pats me on the head then disappears into a flash of light. I hurry up the stairs back up to my bedroom and into the bathroom suite and clean up. As I stand in front of the bathroom mirror brushing out my bangs, I wonder what John is up to. I got my butt kicked by Raheema a couple of minutes ago. How does he figure I can handle her on my own?
I’m pondering the answer to that question while I rub alcohol on E’steem’s Bluetooth earpiece. When my iPhone chirps, I toss the paper towel I was using to clean it in the sink and slip it into my ear. By the third ring I’ve got it configured to work with my phone. “Casa de goddess.” I greet as I push talk.”
“Hey Isis, are you ready?” John’s deep voice broadcasts into my ear.
“Looking fabulous.” I say looking myself over in the bathroom mirror.”
“Great. Take the scenic route.”
“Er…I’m in the South Pacific. Eight thousand miles away from you.”
“We’ve got time.”
I guess we do. Since he’s in no hurry, I shouldn’t be either. I slip my iPhone into its armband, head out of the bedroom, and jog down the stairs into the great room of the beach house. Balmy tropical air hits me in the face as I step out onto the teak deck and make my way down to the beach. As my feet rise up off the white sands, I soar into the azure skies above the South Pacific Ocean and start heading west.
“You’re not in a hurry to kick a Cybergoddesses’ butt are you?” I ask.
“E’steem hasn’t picked up my package yet.” John replies.
I guess I can take this time to apologize for putting my foot in my mouth earlier. “I’m really sorry about what I said to you earlier.”
“It’s okay. People have said worse to me-”
“I’d like to think I could show a better example of Christ than what you experienced.”
“Hey, God loves us all in spite of ourselves.” John says. “Besides, I’ve learned foot in mouth disease is genetic with this family.”
“I take it my sister has tasted a few toe jam sandwiches in during her time with you-”
“Nothing that couldn’t be washed down with a slice of humble pie.”
Now I see why E’steem likes him. He’s nice. “Hey, I just feel bad about
