5.2.1 Prognostic Homogeneity
In Evidence-based medicine, one of the basic critical appraisal criteria by which to evaluate studies of treatments is whether ‘. . . the groups were similar in all prognostically important ways at the start of the trial’ (Straus et al. 2011: 172). Homogeneity of this type involves having similarities in severity of disease, overall health status, and sociodemographic factors that are presumed to be relevant to outcome.
