Anne agonised over the incident for the rest of the weekend, realising that though Tanya had been caught and possibly punished by her parents for the bullying outside of school, it didnât mean she wouldnât retaliate during school.
The girl had proven her willingness to hurt her friends already, multiple times.
She eventually asked her father for advice and showed him the footage from the ice rink.
âWell, the manager is right, you can tell itâs the same girl but only just and you never see her face. As proof goes, itâs not ironclad.â He thought for a few minutes, holding his chin and tapping his cheek with his index finger.
He held up his finger, âWait here.â He instructed her and strode off into the garage. When he returned he was holding his dashcam and Anneâs bag.
âYou carry this around all day donât you?â Anne nodded. âOkay, do you still have that USB power bank we got you for Christmas?â Again she nodded. âRight, go get it, Iâll nip and get my tools.â
When she came back her dad had cut a small hole in the outside layer of her bag, through into the front pocket. âRight, pass me the battery. Is it charged?â He asked.
âYeah, I just unplugged it.â She answered.
He took out a roll of foam tape marked UHB and carefully cut strips to go round the camera lens and down the flat body then he pressed the other side onto the inside of the pocket, making sure the lens was visible through the small hole.
âRight, just the cable up through here and pop the power bank into this little internal pocket. There, one spy bag, ready to go. Shall we test it?â He asked with a smile.
He plugged in the power. Nothing visibly happened as the little red light that normally came on was hidden by the tape, he put the bag on her back and she walked around. âOkay, simulating me pushing you.â He walked up behind her and gave a gentle shove. âGreat, letâs get the sd card and check if that was okay.â
They plugged the card into his laptop and right enough, in glorious HD goodness was everything from the viewpoint of the bag, including a perfect image of his face as he pushed her even better it even captured audio.
âRight, no taking this into the locker rooms or toilets! That may get you and me in trouble.â He reinserted the card and set her bag on the table. âNow, that covers you for a rear attack, I would suggest for breaks and lunch you find a wall or a corner and point the bag away from you. You okay with that?â
Anne nodded, quite relieved that she would have some proof if something happened.
âNow, tomorrow morning when the office opens Iâm going to call up and explain what happened, I will make sure they know to keep an eye out but I will tell them not to make a fuss unless something actually happens. That way at least they will have been pre-warned and will be more likely to take your side.
