In 1989, Sacramento became the first American city to close a nuclear power plant by a vote of the people. In 1978, the now decommissioned Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant experienced a power failure that led to steam generator dry-out. Because this event could have led to a nuclear disaster, it was later judged to be the third most serious safety-related nuclear plant occurrence in the US.
Sacramento River Delta
