THE GUYS had already grabbed a table, and once Casey and Vin sat down, they ordered their beers and looked over the menu.

“I just got this from the system at work,” Carter said, handing Casey his phone. “The Mercedes is a rental, but their agreement is with a Renaldo Madrigal. The address is in Philadelphia. But I checked it, and it’s an empty lot. I couldn’t find much on him—there is very little information available. But we know he is in the country on a Costa Rican passport. Other than that, all we know is that he seems shady and hard to pin down. So if we want to uncover anything else, we’re going to have to do some digging. But there is one other thing that I found interesting….” Carter paused while the server brought their drinks. Casey could already feel his muscles tensing, and Vin patted his leg under the table, which helped.

“Casey, relax. You’re here with friends,” Vin whispered.

“Is there something we don’t know?” Terry asked.

Casey shrugged and turned to Vin, who seemed to understand Casey was finding the situation hard to talk about. His emotions were swimming very close to the surface at the moment, especially where his daughter was concerned. “Alicia was waiting when we got back to the house. She says she’s going to cause trouble.”

“As I was saying, I came across an interesting fact. It seems that Renaldo Madrigal has close ties to the Lorez family. Which I believe is Alicia’s family, right? The two have married across the aisle many times.”

“So he is definitely someone she met back home,” Casey added, and Carter nodded. “I’m trying to access more about the two families, but I’m running into some interference.” That was what Carter already said when he ran into a wall of secrecy. “The impediment is the DEA.”

Vin touched his leg. “Could it be?” Vin asked, and Casey shrugged. Sure, it was possible that two parts of his life were colliding, but he wasn’t going to jump to conclusions. Stranger things had happened, and it wouldn’t surprise him if Alicia had teamed up with Renaldo and his family to try to gain the advantage in her quest to get her daughter back. Renaldo seemed to have money, and maybe Alicia was hoping to acquire some influence that way. He wouldn’t put anything past her at this point.

“All right, let’s all have a drink,” Donald said brightly. “To a successful walk and hopefully bringing this business to a conclusion.” He raised a glass, and they all followed along. Casey pushed away his worries and took a swallow of his beer. Whatever Alicia decided to try next, he’d be ready for her.
