I can’t remember the last time I saw Rob in a suit. Maybe at Freya’s graduation? I wonder how old the suit is. From the way it fits, I’m guessing pretty old. It’s probably a suit he was bought as a teenager, maybe for someone’s wedding, or for his sixth-form prom, or for job interviews my parents hoped would materialise. It’s not that it’s too small that’s the giveaway. It’s that it is too big. Like something bought with growth in mind, growth that never came. He looks good all the same. He looks smart.

He wasn’t nervous about speaking in front of all these people and it seems he had no need to be. When it’s his turn he speaks the words he has written loudly, calmly, slowly, clearly. They are blunt words, and they are all the more moving for it.

‘…always told good stories…can’t believe it…wish I could change it… I should have been more helpful…’

I thought I’d already broken as much as I possibly could, but his words find a new piece of me to smash.
