EXPOSING THE TRUTH
The I Ching is of immense value in overcoming fear and exposing the truth. I use the phrase âexposing the truthâ because whenever the cause of your fear is unmasked, there is the shining kernel of truth informing you that there is nothing that can happen to you that will not be to your great benefit. Even the worst thing that can happen will be to your benefit. Using the I Ching, you can ask:
âWhat do I need to know about my current fear?â
âWhat will happen if my current fear materializes?â
âWhat can I do to eliminate the cause of my fear?â
People have asked me, âWhat about the people who have AIDS or cancer or Alzheimerâs who will die a painful, demoralizing death? Shouldnât they be afraid? What benefit could they possibly derive from those horrible diseases?â Those are truly difficult situations to see as being beneficial, but remember the wisdom from the I Ching that I cited in chapter one: âThat intelligent, creative, aware force [that created and sustains the Universe] endlessly shapes and alters us to the purpose that we will ultimately come to achieve our true nature.â
Fu Hsi, the ancient Chinese sage who stated that truth so many thousands of years ago, perceived the two fundamental principles of life that are still in effect today: âChange is constantâ and âEvery event benefits you.â When you are beginning to understand that everything that befalls you benefits you, it may be difficult to perceive that any benefit could ever come through a major catastrophe or a great illness. It is better to start practicing that philosophy with small things, like a stubbed toe, a lost wallet, or a missed bus or plane. See whether you can find a benefit in thatâ perhaps by realizing that stubbing your toe, for example, released an acupressure pointâand then be thankful for the experience.
