Chapter 17

Sleep over tonight.

Theo hesitated as he stared at the message he’d just typed out on his cell phone.

It had been two days since he and Hunter had kissed in his Jeep and he’d confessed his feelings to Hunter. Though Hunter had acted as if nothing had happened between them when he’d picked him up the next morning, Theo had detected the trace of reservation deep in his gray eyes and knew he was still thinking about what Theo had said to him.

Winning Hunter over was proving to be the biggest challenge of Theo’s life. He suspected the reward, if he were to be successful, would be the sweetest victory he’d ever tasted.

Theo took a deep breath and pressed the send button.

He waited breathlessly for Hunter’s reply. A minute passed, then two.

His cell buzzed with an incoming call. Theo’s heart lurched.

It was Hunter.

Theo’s fingers trembled as he answered.

“That’s a bad idea,” Hunter stated without preamble. “Like, super bad.”

Theo couldn’t stop the smile that split his mouth. He could imagine Hunter gnawing on his lip and frowning at the other end of the line. He decided to go in with all guns blazing.

“I like you, Hunter. I like you a lot. I know you have your own reservations about what’s happening between us, but I’ve never felt this way about anyone before and I don’t want to walk away from this.”

Hunter inhaled sharply.

“I—I just can’t!” he stammered after a short silence.

Theo frowned. “Because we’re both tops?”

“Yes,” Hunter admitted breathily.

Theo fell silent.

“Do you want to top me?” he finally said. “Because I don’t mind if you—”

“No!” Hunter blurted out.

Theo blinked, surprised.

It seemed Hunter was similarly surprised by his outburst from his shocked pause.

“We don’t have to have penetrative sex,” Theo said. “There are a lot of gay couples who don’t and still have a perfectly satisfactory relationship.”

“I wouldn’t be happy with that,” Hunter mumbled. “And neither would you.”

Theo leaned back in his chair. “Can I ask you a favor?”

Hunter swallowed audibly. “What is it?”

“Will you sleep over tonight?”

Hunter didn’t reply.

“I just want to sleep next to you,” Theo said. “I promise, I won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to do.”
