The next two hours were spent on an intensive survey of the damage to the Arieel. It was bad. Besides the hole burned through the hull, there were stress cracks running about ten feet to either side of the puncture wound. Adam had to slow the ship even more to reduce hull binding before scanning the local area for a repair facility. He couldn’t risk another four days in space. They needed to land, and land soon. Otherwise, they’d be limping along with half a ship, using the auxiliary control in the cargo bay to fly the Arieel, and with the front half of the ship left floating somewhere in space. And Adam wasn’t about to do that. Not to his ship. Not to his home.

“There’s a repair facility about nine light-years from here,” he reported to Nasin after searching the Library. “It will take two days to get there at our current speed. In the meantime, I think we should find some metal strapping in the cargo hold and bolt some bands to the hull. If not, then landing could tear us apart.”

Adam tried to keep a stiff upper lip about the damage, but this was the worst the Arieel had ever been damaged. He was worried, worried sick.
