Pounce
Pounce is a game which really flies in the face of the name Solitaire. It is a game for two or more players. Yeah, you heard me. A game for two or more players. Stay with me here; it is worth it. While the game is or two or more, it is recommended that you play with no more than six. The game is also different from regular Solitaire in that you need multiple decks. You need as many decks as there are players. From here on the game is relatively similar. So what else do you need?
Well, you have your players and your decks. You now need a scorekeeper. This can be any of the payers, or perhaps someone who is not part of the game. Whoever it is needs a pad and a writing implement. The other thing you need to make sure of is that each player has a different deck. Each deck should have a different design on the back of it. You can use decks with the same back in a pinch, but it makes sorting between rounds so much more difficult. You will also need a playing surface large enough for each person to lay out their cards.
Each player should thoroughly shuffle their deck and then deal out their cards. For pounce, each player is going to deal five piles. This is done in much the same way as regular solitaire. The first pile will receive a face-up card with the remaining four receiving a face-down card. The second pile will then receive a face-up card with the remaining piles receiving face-down cards. This will continue until all five piles have one face-up card on top. Once each player has five piles dealt, they will deal a pounce pile. To deal the pounce pile, deal nine cards face-down on the table and then flip the entire pile face-up. The remaining cards are placed face-down and form the stock pile. You are now ready to begin.
The scorekeeper will have a countdown before shouting go. Once go is shouted players can begin playing cards as fast as they can. The aim is to get rid of all the cards in your pounce pile. You do not need to get rid of all the cards in your stock pile, just the pounce pile. Once play begins, the play is much like regular Solitaire.
If you have an ace on one of your five columns, or at the top of your pounce pile, you can start a foundation pile with it. You take the ace and place it in the center of the table between all opponents. Your opponents can do the same. You can now play any card from the tableau or top of your pounce pile to a foundation pile if it is a legal move. As in regular Solitaire, you can place a card on a foundation pile if it is the same suit and ranked one higher than the topmost card.
