The lead is in dummy and West has J 9 behind your Q 10 7 4. Your plan is to ruff dummy’s hearts with your low trumps. Note that West cannot overruff because he has as many hearts as dummy. Your next six plays should be: Ruff a heart in your hand, cash the queen of spades (optional, if you are to succeed, but as a precaution against being set two tricks if West has fewer than four hearts), lead a diamond to dummy’s ace, ruff another heart in your hand, lead a diamond to dummy’s king, and ruff the last heart in your hand. You have just won the first ten tricks—and the admiration of your partner.

It is true you will be set if West has fewer than four hearts (or one diamond and exactly four hearts), but at least you have a reasonable chance. If you do not play as recommended, you will be set regardless of West’s distribution in the side suits.
