ne of the illusions in which modern magicians make use of ultraviolet lights and fluorescent paint is the levitation trick described below.

The magician hypnotizes the lady assistant and carries her in his arms. A curtain in the middle of the stage is then drawn open, and reveals two assistants, holding a white tray as shown in figure 11. The background is black, of course. The magician walks up to the tray and lays down the lady on it. The normal lights are switched off and the ultraviolet lights turned on. At a signal from the magician, his assistants remove the tray and take is away. The lady remains suspended in mid-air (figure12).

Holding a ring, the magician takes it all the way from the head of the suspended lady, to her legs and back again, a couple of times, to prove that there are no hidden supports of any kind. In a minute or two, the assistants, come back with the tray and place it under the lady’s body. The magician awakens the assistant from her trance, she waves and walks away.
