After I learned PLO for a while, I realized my edge at no-limit holdem wasn’t as big as I thought it was. The reason was I couldn’t spot that many mistakes in my opponents’ games. No-limit holdem strategies have advanced so much in the past few years that players are getting better at protecting their money. No matter how bad a player is, if all he does is fold pre-flop, it’s going to be pretty tough to win money from him.

But when I played PLO, I saw mistakes left and right, even by regulars who win a lot. I’m pretty sure they were thinking the same about my game. What this means is that PLO is a much less solved game. And since I am able to see more mistakes by my opponents in PLO, that means my edge in the game is bigger.
