When the karma of an individual has been exhausted, like a bank account emptied of its credit and its debit then closed, the latter obtains the "nirvana", the great cessation. Such an individual enters and leaves the cycle of existences at will, out of pure compassion, without being affected by any type of conditioning.

In Christianity, Jesus is considered a being free from all karma, whose mission was to compensate for the faults of humanity to save it by his own death and then his resurrection. His eschatological return is announced at a time when humans will face a challenge of a cosmic nature, threatening their very collective existence. Jesus will then take away the part of humans who have accepted and received his power of liberation: this episode is called "ascension of the church".
