“Do the impression again,” Zara asked, her face a mottled red as she laughed on Richelle and Liam’s couch. “I don’t even know this Gwynyth woman, but the face you make of her seems spot-on.”

All the women in their group were laughing as Bianca regaled them with her triumphant tale of vanquishing not only the stick-up-her-ass teacher, Miss Beatrice, but also thoroughly putting Gwynyth in her place.

Bianca curled her lips, bugged out her eyes and flared her nostrils.

“It’s like she’s smelling her own fart but also trying not to shit herself,” Richelle said, wiping a tear from beneath an amber eye.

Bianca shrugged and sipped her wine. She was pretty damn proud of herself and of how she’d not only handled the democra-zy that was the PTA bitches, but also Miss Beatrice.

The laughter died down, and the women all chatted among themselves. Bianca sat back in her chair and remembered Friday afternoon at school as all the children sat in a circle on the carpet in the classroom, their parents lining the walls.

This was the traditional last day of school. The parents came early, and the students put on a little skit-type thing and showed their parents some of their art and what they were working on in class and had learned over the year. Then the students presented the teacher with a joint class gift before everyone said goodbye for the summer.

Bianca had put together the mother of all gift baskets, and of course, Zara’s one-of-a-kind masterpiece bouquet had arrived right on time. It was unique and spectacular. Purple orchids, bright orange birds of paradise and butter yellow lilies not quite in bloom had all the parents and even the children oohing and aahing.

A pinch at Bianca’s elbow had her turn to find Gwynyth and her lackeys sidling up beside her. She adjusted Charlie on her hip.

“You’ve got some explaining to do,” Gwynyth said with a hiss, her eyes thin slits and serpent-like.

Bianca rolled her eyes. “We’ll see.”

Like two proud, rosy-faced little dolls, Hannah carted the basket and Hayley carried the bouquet up to Miss Beatrice at the front of the class.

“This is for you, Miss Beatrice,” they said in perfect “Redrum” stereo.

“Thank you, girls,” Miss Beatrice gushed.

“It’s from the whole class and our parents,” Hannah added. “My mommy picked everything out.”

Miss Beatrice’s eyes widened before her head lifted. She glanced at Bianca with worry in her expression.

Did she think Bianca was going to poison her?

Not that the thought hadn’t crossed Bianca’s mind, but it’d only hung around for maybe five minutes before she decided to go with chocolates and a bunch of gift certificates. Murder wasn’t in her wheelhouse. Neither was putting laxatives in someone’s coffee just for super shits and giggles. Kill ’em with kindness, not arsenic.

Slowly, Miss Beatrice peeled back the plastic from the basket and started checking out the contents. In addition to all the gift certificates, Bianca bought a bottle of wine, some nice loose-leaf tea and an aromatherapy candle to hopefully help Miss Beatrice calm the fuck down.
