“What are we going to do this weekend?”

I look up to see Garrett in the doorway. “You think we should do anything? We seem to have had bad luck when we left town to do something together the last time.”

“Get over it. I think of it as an adventure.” Then I see the excitement enter his eyes. “Let’s go on another one.”

I try to think of an excuse, but I can’t. I wanted to see if I could get Logan to hang out or something. Damn it. My hand clenches on the pen I’m holding. “Fine. What ideas do you have?”

“Rafting,” Garrett says with a nod. “Yeah, we haven’t done that in a while.”

“It’s supposed to rain this weekend, but first chance we can, we’ll go.

“Want to take my truck or yours?” I look up and see him smiling. Smirking, I chuck my pen at him.

“Yours asshole. Stupid question.”

“Hey! Aubrey’s going to be transporting several dogs over the coming weeks and needs the space.”

I look up at him. “We can always stay and help her,” I begin.

He waves off my offer. “She told me flat out to stay out of this. It’s her deal this time. I can go next time.”

I smile because really, it took them two long enough to stay together and overcome their differences. Will Logan and I ever get there? More than friends? I don’t think so, at least not anymore.

“Let me finish this paperwork.”

“What is it?” Garrett asks.

“There’re more companies out there then what you know about that want to find missing people. I figure…why limit ourselves to helping find kids?”

“Makes sense,” Garrett responds. “If I need to do anything let me know?”

“Will do.” I’m about to draft something up when a loud yell comes down the hall.

“Barrett!” Piper yells down the hall.

Garrett and I both groan. “Piper, we’re literally right here,” I say loudly. “You can walk over here.”

She peeks past Garrett. “I didn’t want to have any misunderstandings is all.”

Garrett laughs and walks away. “All you dude. All you.”

Glaring at his back I turn to Piper. “What’s up?”

“I was wondering if…”

“What?” I look up at her and notice she’s nervous. Piper’s normally confident and laughing, yet here she is, hunched, hands wringing, and she’s biting her lip, her whiskey-colored eyes worried. “You alright?”

She looks down the hall for some reason then turns to me. “Logan…”

I stand up. “What about Logan? Is she alright?” I go to grab my jacket and head out when Piper puts her hand on my chest, stopping me. I look down at her hand and then up to her face. “Piper?”

I watch as her chest rises and falls. “Logan’s going on a date with my brother Bell, and he designed a couple of tattoos for her and she’s going to choose one and I think it’s all wrong for her because you and her really belong together but my brother is super persuasive!”

“Uh, what?”

“She said Logan has a date with her brother Bell,” Garrett says slowly as he walks back, reading a file.
