“Hey, Lydia,” Susie said with a wave when I walked through the door.

“Hey, girl. Love the hair.”

She shook out her purple mane. “Thanks. I was sick of the red.”

“Well, this looks great on you. Is it jammed in there?”

“Not yet. It’s still early.”

This was true. Most members didn’t show up until much later. I actually preferred being there before the masses. My tastes were pretty specific, and the fewer people around, the better. It had taken a very long time for me to become comfortable being there at all.

Shortly after I moved back to New York, I met my neighbor and now best friend, Jana. We quickly hit it off, becoming fast friends. Jana was much more adventurous than I. She was quirky, eccentric, and extremely sexual, and I found her personality refreshing. She never cared what anyone thought, constantly sporting a fuck-them attitude. At the time, she was just what I needed in my life.

After practically kidnapping me, Jana dragged me to Himeros. My first experience was terrifying. I couldn’t get out of my own head, worrying what people would think…what my father would think. In spite of the fact I was completely turned on, shame prevented me from truly accepting there could be a side of me that enjoyed what the club had to offer.

It took a few weeks for Jana to finally convince me I was an adult who had every right to explore her sexuality. She was absolutely right. In California, I had already pushed my comfort zone by hiring an occasional male escort. I had to think of Himeros as a natural progression for my curiosity.

Except for Jana, no one in my life knew I was a member…until Sam. He must have seen me last week with Manuel. The circumstances looked more salacious than what was reality. I never had sex with anyone at the club. As hard as it was to believe, I truly only spectated. That night, Manuel accompanied me in one of the black rooms. We sat side by side, watching and nothing else.

I was dying to know if Sam was also a member. In the six months of my membership, I’d never seen him there. Normally, information regarding members and their personal profiles were confidential. But I wouldn’t have a problem asking Susie to look him up to confirm if he had been there on a sponsorship or not. Knowing he could turn up at any moment both thrilled and infuriated me.

That club was mine, a private piece of myself that I kept secret. I hated that he of all people knew I was here, yet at the same time, I loved that he did. I was a walking contradiction. It took me a very long time to become the confident woman I was, but I could easily see myself slipping back into the insecure Lydia he had turned me into years ago.

“See you later, Susie. I need a favor on my way out,” I hinted with a wink.

“Sure, sweetie. Tell me now, and I’ll see what I can do.
