Almost all of them took some pictures of me or did some selfies to put on Instagram and Twitter and Facebook and other social media channels.
It was brilliant.
I was very surprised by Dad. He couldnât stop shouting. âSave the planet! Stop using plastic!â
His voice is remarkably loud.
âThatâs because I used to be an actor,â he said.
I never knew he used to be an actor.
âThere are a lot of things you donât know about me,â Dad said.
Iâm beginning to realise that.
The whole day was brilliant. I was feeling so happy! Then Mrs Ahmed came past. And everything went wrong.
It wasnât her fault. She just gave me some information, which made me feel awful.
Mrs Ahmed lives on our street. She was doing her shopping with her two sons Mohammed and Joseph. They were each carrying two of those skimpy plastic bags, which fall apart as soon as you put anything heavy inside.
I said, âYou should use reusable bags instead of those ones. Itâs much better for the planet.â
Mrs Ahmed said I was right. She said itâs difficult to find the right bags at the right moment when youâre a single mother with two sons who have to be watched every minute. Then she pointed at my banner and said, âHavenât you read about the environmental impact of glitter?â
I said I hadnât.
She said, âLook it up.â
I did. It was awful. Glitter is literally poison for the planet. Itâs even worse than plastic straws or plastic bottles.
Now Iâm feeling horrible. Iâm guilty. Iâm ashamed. Iâm a bad person. I thought I was doing the right thing, but actually Iâve just messed up the world even more than before.
Dad said, âDonât worry, pumpkin. You canât do everything right. Weâre all human. We all make mistakes. But youâre doing something. Youâre making a difference. Thatâs brilliant! You care about the planet. Thatâs amazing. You should feel proud of yourself. Iâm proud of you, anyway. Youâre the best.â
âWhat about me?â said Finn.
âAnd me!â said Becca.
âYouâre both the best too,â Dad said. âCome on. Letâs shout at Mr Schnitzel a bit more.â
We all shouted at the tops of our voices: âSave the planet! Stop using plastic! Save the planet! Stop using plastic! Save the planet! Stop using plastic!â
