Chapter Twelve

Standing dockside in Nassau, Pam pretended not to notice her ex-husband. As far as she was concerned the perfect scenario for the next week would have been for Gil to stay cloistered in his cabin. Out of sight out of mind. Right. And Lucille Ball was a natural redhead. Not that it mattered.

Just her luck, Leo had as much in common with Gil as his own shadow. Since Gil hadn’t joined the group for dinner, nor later at the after supper club, Leo went to his cabin and escorted him up to join them. At first it hadn’t been too bad as they sat off to the side talking shop, but by the end of the night, Leo had christened Gil part of the clan. Leo was too blasted friendly for his own good, and too darn persuasive. It hadn’t taken long in their relationship for her to realize there was no point in arguing with a litigator. And Leo was one of the best.

None of this would be a problem if Gil had only grown paunch and grouchy—and weren’t still such a heart-stopping kisser. For those few seconds on deck she’d been swept back in time. The sensations and memories sluicing over her like a warm shower after a hard day. Even now, the next day, it took a conscious effort to keep her fingers from brushing across her lips. Whether to mitigate the heat the mere memory sent coursing through her or seal the sensations a while longer, she wasn’t sure. What she did know was that she couldn’t still have feelings for Gil. Too many years had passed. So much had changed.

Despite her friends’ insistence, she’d sworn up and down that she was not still in love with Gil Harris. She couldn’t be. She hardly knew the man he’d become. But that didn’t mean her hormones weren’t on high alert whenever he came near. The guy had to have enough pheromones to attract most of the women in the western hemisphere. If Gil and she had remained married she would have probably spent all these years beating ladies off with a stick.

And from the looks of things, whether she liked it or not, she was going to have to get used to spending this trip with her past, turned current, and future husbands. Just what every woman wanted—a honeymoon for three.

While Kirk and Leo bartered with the hansom cabbies over the price for an island tour group, Pam admired the handy work of some local artisan and pretended having Gil standing beside her didn’t matter.

“Did you see this one?” Gil pointed to the shiniest shell on display.

The sparkly shell had caught her eye from across the way. “It’s pretty.”

“You still like sparkle, don’t you?”

His remembering she liked all things that glittered shouldn’t have meant so much, but it did. Swallowing the smile threatening to take over her face, she didn’t trust her voice and opted for a simple nod.

Angie turned her attention from Leo and Kirk to the handmade jewelry.
